Ultimate Guide

Rudraprayag – Where Rivers & Mountains Meet

Rudraprayag sits peacefully at the confluence of the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers, surrounded by forested hills and Himalayan silence. Unlike crowded hill towns, it offers a slower rhythm — ideal to ease into the Garhwal Himalayas.

In winter, Rudraprayag feels especially calm. Clear skies, crisp air, and quiet evenings by the river make it a perfect stop to unwind after long drives and before heading higher into the mountains.

Why it’s included in this tour:

  • Scenic river confluences
  • Comfortable altitude for acclimatisation
  • A peaceful Himalayan town experience
  • Ideal winter halt before Chopta

Chopta – The Winter Heart of Garhwal

Often called the “Mini Switzerland of Uttarakhand”, Chopta transforms into a magical snow-covered meadow in February. Dense forests of oak and rhododendron, open alpine clearings, and panoramic Himalayan views make Chopta one of the most beautiful winter destinations in North India.

Winter in Chopta is quiet, raw, and incredibly scenic — perfect for travellers seeking nature without chaos.

Winter highlights in Chopta:

  • Snow-covered landscapes (weather permitting)
  • Crisp mountain mornings & golden sunsets
  • Starry skies on clear nights
  • A true offbeat Himalayan experience

Tungnath Temple Trek

Distance: ~3.5 km one way

Difficulty: Easy to Moderate

Why it’s special: Tungnath is the highest Shiva temple in the world

The trek starts gently and gradually ascends through snow-lined trails (conditions permitting). Even if snow restricts access to the temple gates, the journey itself is rewarding — quiet, spiritual, and surrounded by majestic peaks.

Suitable for first-time trekkers with basic fitness.

Chandrashila Summit Trek

Altitude: ~4,000 m

Difficulty: Moderate

For those seeking an extra challenge, Chandrashila summit lies above Tungnath. On clear days, it offers stunning views of Nanda Devi, Trishul, Chaukhamba, and Kedarnath ranges.

Note: This trek is entirely weather-dependent in winter and will be attempted only if conditions are safe.

Auli – India’s Winter Playground

Auli is India’s most loved winter destination — known for its snow slopes, wide views, and alpine feel. In February, Auli often wears a clean white blanket of snow, making it perfect for relaxed exploration and optional winter activities.

Unlike crowded hill stations, Auli remains open, spacious, and scenic.

Why Auli is a winter highlight:

  • Snow-covered meadows & slopes
  • Panoramic views of Nanda Devi range
  • Calm, open landscapes even in peak winter
  • One of India’s best ropeway routes

Skiing in Auli

For adventure lovers, Auli offers basic to intermediate skiing experiences under local instructors (subject to snow conditions).

  • Ideal for beginners
  • Equipment & instructor available locally
  • Conducted only if weather permits

Haridwar – A Spiritual Pause

Haridwar marks a gentle transition from the mountains to the plains. Set along the holy Ganga, it brings a spiritual calm after days in the high Himalayas.

The evening Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri is a deeply moving experience — lamps floating on the river, chants in the air, and a sense of timelessness.

Why Haridwar completes the journey:

  • Spiritual & cultural contrast
  • Easy pace after mountain travel
  • A meaningful closing experience

Winter Travel Notes (Important)

  • February temperatures can range from 0°C to 12°C depending on altitude
  • Snowfall and road conditions are weather-dependent
  • Some treks or activities may be modified for safety
