The steep trek down to the bridge is challenging, with steps becoming particularly slippery during the monsoon. However, the sight of rivers in spate and waterfalls in full flow enhances the beauty of the root bridges. These living root bridges, some over a hundred feet long, take 10-15 years to become fully functional and can support the weight of fifty or more people. This dance, performed by monks for nearly 600 years, is a vital part of ritual worship, with its techniques and traditions passed down to the younger generation by elder monks. We will also visit a mask-making monastery. This monastery continues to practice ancient methods of crafting masks, which are typically worn during 'Bhaona'—a traditional form of theatrical play with a religious message.
